Vale Chris Warren

Steve

Could you add to the blog the following information about Chris Warren:

Chris passed away last Wednesday week the 17th of October 2018 at 8.00pm.

A funeral was held for him on Tuesday 23rd of October 2018 at 12.00pm
Paul Darnell and I attended to say goodbye to our old friend Chris.

As expected there was a large group of people there to see him off
Chris was a unique person who made friends wherever he went.
Our thoughts go out to his family and of course his dear old mother.

Regards,

Rick Hill

Chris Warren...

Hey Steve,

Just found out on Facebook that Chris Warren is very ill with a brain tumour. He is now in a nursing home in Paddington called The Terraces and cannot talk but would love to see anybody who could drop in.

You may put this up to let any of the guys that were friends with Chris know.

Very distressing
Thanks mate
Peter

STHS Old Boys’ 40’s – ‘75 Group Reunion 2018

Hi all,

Attached is the flyer from this year’s STHS Old Boys’ 40’s – ‘75 Group Reunion Lunch committee for 2018.
We received your contact details from the school (perhaps you attended one of the 2011 STHS centenary events) as leaving in the 1970 to 1975 years.

John Coleman, Keith Powell and I have joined Neville Shooter (’63) and John Harrison (’55) on the committee this year to take this annual lunch forward.
It is in fact, the only ongoing regular full ‘STHS Old Boy’s Union’ event.

The lunch is being held this year on Friday 26 October at the NSW Bowlers’ Club in the Sydney CBD, address as indicated on the flyer, at 11am for 12noon lunch.

Short of a separate reunion of your own year, this will be a great chance to catch up and also meet a wider group of STHS ‘old boys’.

Can you please advise any old boys from your own year that you are in contact with about the lunch and if possible, also let us know their contact details for communication about future lunches etc.

If you know of a member of your year group who would have a contact list from a past (especially recent) year reunion, we would be particularly interested in contacting them in order to expand our master contact list, so please forward their details to me or another committee member.

If you can attend (and we’d like to see you there!) it’s necessary to pre-pay and send your payment advice, as indicated in the flyer, to John Coleman, whose contact details are shown on the flyer. Please identify yourself in the payment, to assist.

Any queries, please give me a call on 0408 208 555 or reply by email.

Best regards,

David Knox

Vale Lee Riding

RIDING, Lee Hubert. Passed on 4 December 2017. Deeply loved husband of Alison, and father of Catherine and Timothy. He will be sorely missed. The service to celebrate his life will be held at the North Harbour Chapel of Dil's Funeral Services, 185 Schnapper Rock Road, Albany on Monday 11 December at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations to St John's Ambulance, would be greatly appreciated and may be left at the service on Monday.

FAQ

Can we bring wives and/or partners?
As with our other reunions, NO.
Let's spare them the boredom of six or more hours of
'Remember when...?' and the School Song.

Is anyone from other years at STHS welcome at this function?
Yes. Come along - the more the boomalackier.

Is another date or a different venue possible?
No. Unless you want to take over the management...

Will you be e-mailing everyone with final details?
Yes. Several times. And snail-mailing the others. But not everyone has been keeping in touch with us. We'll eventually publish a list of 'Where is so-and-so? Can you help find him?' on the Blog, and in our  Reunion e-mails.

Can I do anything to help? Make any suggestions?
Send an e-mail to us with that question, and you may indeed get a job to do - and thank you for offering. The main task is to make sure everyone knows that it's happening, whether they can make it this time or not.
We're of course open to suggestions re everything ...

More news as the time approaches.

Oatley and Mortdale Lads...

... check this out!

This image shows the demolition of the chimney stacks at the Judd Street, Mortdale Brickworks, in 1973. Courtesy of the Facebook page 'I Grew Up in Mortdale'.

Who was Judd ?

http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article234985920

The stacks collapsed exactly where they were supposed to, it seems. Was this another triumph for Wheelan the Wrecker?

What Oatley/Mortdale lad did not ride his bike in and out of the old brickworks quarry and other holes and declivities there, fish for tadpoles, and generally explore that site, and like so many of us in those days, escape without injury ?

What took the place of the brickworks was at first the Alexander Mackie Teachers' College, which then became a CAE, and then George's River Senior School, or College, I think. The Wyndham Scheme, only a few decades late...
